TALLERES/WORKSHOPS

MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS TALLER TAUGHT BY SOUTH FLORIDA FUNGI AND MOTHER EARTH MIAMI, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23RD, 2019

Please join Arturo Castellon and Carmen Rodriguez of South Florida Fungi for a medicinal mushroom taller/workshop. Arturo and Carmen produce fresh, gourmet and exotic mushrooms that are locally and organically grown, using environmentally sound methods here in South Florida. They believe in education, sustainability, and innovation through an approach of community outreach.

They are obsessed with the health benefits for immunity, energy, and longevity that have been studied for centuries, and they want to help you learn all about the mushroom kingdom. The taller will include an in depth and hands on lecture of mushroom: history, kingdom, medicinal constituents and uses, types (you’ll get to see & touch them!), growing methods, preparation methods, and more. Each student will learn how to make a double reishi extract, tincture, decoction, tea, and grow their own reishi mushrooms at home.

The taller includes: printed in-depth syllabus with other learning resources information, an 8 fl oz reishi mushroom double extract (tinctured then decocted) with all materials to finish the process at home, reishi growing kit, communal reishi tea, and a surprise!

Your reishi mushroom growing kit is fully colonized and ready to fruit. All grow kits and spawn are 5+ lbs that will deliver flush after flush.

About South Florida Fungi: Beyond Mushrooms, Carmen and Arturo believe in integrated systems of Agriculture that mimic that of a natural Environment. It all began with South Florida Fresh, an account you can follow on Instagram which showcases our small family farm and other local farms in South Florida and now obsessed with all things Mushrooms! They are excited to share this journey with all their customers and followers!

We like to put together small workshops groups so the interaction between the students and the teachers is more effective and also because we work with small business like ours who grow and prepare products in small amounts.

For this reason, we are not offering refunds. If you need to cancel, please contact us by email or by phone a week to a few days before so your space can be replaced by someone that wishes to participate. This only applies if there is someone available to take your spot.

We like to reuse and use glass, metal or ceramic containers so, we strongly encourage our participants to bring their own cup or jar with lid (if you’ll like to take some to-go) for the reishi communal tea part of the workshop.

We will also have some medicinal mushrooms for sale at the end of the taller!

HERBALIST GARDENING WORKSHOP TAUGHT BY MOTHER EARTH MIAMI CELEBRATING EARTH DAY AT THE WYNWOOD YARD

SATURDAY, APRIL 21ST

Join farmers & herbalists Katia Bechara and Gabriela Serra of Mother Earth Miami Farm for an introduction to medicinal plants and herbalism workshop. Gabi and Katia tend a 2,500 square foot plot at the Little River Coop Farm in North Miami that they have packed full of tropical medicinal flowers, roots and herbs and want to share their bounty and knowledge with you. The workshop will include an introduction to all the different ways to use plants as medicine (infusions, decoctions, poultices, etc) with overview of the most common medicinal plants found in subtropical Miami. Use your newfound knowledge about the different beneficial uses of plants and use plant material from the farm to make an oil infusion for you to take home as a start to your own herbal apothecary. Then watch a demonstration as Gabriela and Katia make a salve with calendula infused oil and local beeswax, so you can try your hand at solid salves at home. Each participant will go home with a printed handout to use as reference material, 1 jar of infused oil, a small pot of homemade salve and a newfound skill set you can use to continue learning and making tinctures at home!

This workshop is designed for beginners who are interested in starting to learn about the basics of medicinal plants. While there are many books and online resources about making tinctures and using plants as medicine South Florida is a unique subtropical growing environment with many native or cultivated plants available that don't grow in most other areas of the country, and we think its important to focus on learning about plant species from your area instead of relying on purchased materials grown elsewhere.
